PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11A, subsections 1 and 2, Code 1 2 1995, are amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. Schools and school districts unable to meet the 1 4 standard adopted by the state board requiring each school or 1 5 school district operating a kindergarten through grade twelve 1 6 program to provide an articulated sequential elementary- 1 7 secondary guidance program may, not later than August 1,19931 8 1995, for the school year beginning July 1,19931995, file a 1 9 written request to the department of education that the 1 10 department waive the requirement for that school or school 1 11 district. The procedures specified in subsection43 apply to 1 12 the request. Not later than August 1,19941996, for the 1 13 school year beginning July 1,19941996, the board of 1 14 directors of a school district or the authorities in charge of 1 15 a nonpublic school may request a one-year extension of the 1 16 waiver. 1 17 2. Not later than August 1,19931995, for the school year 1 18 beginning July 1,19931995, the board of directors of a 1 19 school district, or authorities in charge of a nonpublic 1 20 school, may file a written request with the department of 1 21 education that the department waive the rule adopted by the 1 22 state board to establish and operate a media services program 1 23 to support the total curriculum for that district or school. 1 24 The procedures specified in subsection43 apply to the 1 25 request. Not later than August 1,19941996, for the school 1 26 year beginning July 1,19941996, the board of directors of a 1 27 school district or the authorities in charge of a nonpublic 1 28 school may request an additional one-year extension of the 1 29 waiver. 1 30 EXPLANATION 1 31 This bill extends the periods in which a school or school 1 32 district may apply to the department of education to waive the 1 33 requirement that the school or school district provide an 1 34 articulated sequential elementary-secondary guidance program 1 35 and the requirement that the school or school district provide 2 1 a media services program.
