PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 2.10, subsection 1, Code 1995, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. Every member of the general assembly except the 1 4 presiding officer of the senate, the speaker of the house, the 1 5 majority and minority floor leader of each house, and the 1 6 president pro tempore of the senate and speaker pro tempore of 1 7 the house, shall receive an annual salary of eighteen thousand 1 8 eight hundred dollars for the year 1995 and subsequent years 1 9 while serving as a member of the general assembly. In 1 10 addition, each such member shall receive the sum of sixty 1 11 dollars per day for expenses of office, except travel, for 1 12 each day the general assembly is in session commencing with 1 13 the first day of a legislative session and ending with the day 1 14 of final adjournment of each legislative session as indicated 1 15 by the journals of the house and senate, except that if the 1 16 length of the first regular session of the general assembly 1 17 exceedsone hundred tenninety calendar days and the second 1 18 regular session exceedsone hundredeighty calendar days, the 1 19 payments shall be made only forone hundred tenninety 1 20 calendar days for the first session andone hundredeighty 1 21 calendar days for the second session. However, members from 1 22 Polk county shall receive forty-five dollars per day. Each 1 23 member shall receive a one hundred twenty-five dollar per 1 24 month allowance for legislative district constituency postage, 1 25 travel, telephone costs, and other expenses. Travel expenses 1 26 shall be paid at the rate established by section 18.117 for 1 27 actual travel in going to and returning from the seat of 1 28 government by the nearest traveled route for not more than one 1 29 time per week during a legislative session. However, any 1 30 increase from time to time in the mileage rate established by 1 31 section 18.117 shall not become effective for members of the 1 32 general assembly until the convening of the next general 1 33 assembly following the session in which the increase is 1 34 adopted; and this provision shall prevail over any 1 35 inconsistent provision of any present or future statute. 2 1 EXPLANATION 2 2 This bill changes the durational limitations on 2 3 legislators' per diem from 110 days to 90 days during the 2 4 first session and from 100 days to 80 days during the second 2 5 session of the general assembly.
