1 1 Section 1. Section 80B.11, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 10. Examination process for law enforce-
1 4 ment officers who receive legitimate law enforcement training
1 5 in another state and who seek to become certified in Iowa.
1 6 The process shall provide the person with the opportunity to
1 7 demonstrate the skills and aptitude necessary for
1 8 certification. The director shall define "legitimate law
1 9 enforcement training" by rule and may set fees to cover the
1 10 costs of the examination process.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill provides that a person who has received
1 13 legitimate law enforcement training in another state may be
1 14 certified as a peace officer in Iowa through an examination
1 15 process through the Iowa law enforcement academy. The
1 16 examination process, the fees necessary to cover its costs,
1 17 and the definition of "legitimate law enforcement training"
1 18 are to be determined by the adoption of administrative rules.
