1 1 Section 1. Section 614.1, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 14. ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS. Those
1 4 founded on injuries against an architect registered under
1 5 chapter 544A or an engineer registered under chapter 542B
1 6 arising out of an act defined as professional architectural
1 7 services pursuant to 544A.16, or defined within the practice
1 8 of professional engineering pursuant to section 542B.2, within
1 9 five years after the date on which the act occurred. This
1 10 subsection does not apply to an action subject to subsection 2
1 11 of this section.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill provides that an action for damages founded on
1 14 injuries against an architect registered under chapter 544A or
1 15 an engineer registered under chapter 542B arising out of an
1 16 act defined as professional architectural services pursuant to
1 17 section 544A.16, or defined within the practice of
1 18 professional engineering pursuant to section 542B.2, must be
1 19 brought within five years after the date on which such act
1 20 occurred.
