PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 2.10, subsection 1, Code 1995, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. Every member of the general assembly except the 1 4 presiding officer of the senate, the speaker of the house, the 1 5 majority and minority floor leader of each house, and the 1 6 president pro tempore of the senate and speaker pro tempore of 1 7 the house, shall receive an annual salary of eighteen thousand 1 8 eight hundred dollars for the year 1995 and subsequent years 1 9 while serving as a member of the general assembly. In 1 10 addition, each such member shall receive the sum of sixty 1 11 dollars per day for expenses of office, except travel, for 1 12 each day the general assembly is in session commencing with 1 13 the first day of a legislative session and ending with the day 1 14 of final adjournment of each legislative session as indicated 1 15 by the journals of the house and senate, except that if the 1 16 length of the first regular session of the general assembly 1 17 exceeds one hundredtencalendar days and the second regular 1 18 session exceedsone hundredninety calendar days, the payments 1 19 shall be made only for one hundredtencalendar days for the 1 20 first session andone hundredninety calendar days for the 1 21 second session. However, members from Polk county shall 1 22 receive forty-five dollars per day. Each member shall receive 1 23 a one hundred twenty-five dollar per month allowance for 1 24 legislative district constituency postage, travel, telephone 1 25 costs, and other expenses. Travel expenses shall be paid at 1 26 the rate established by section 18.117 for actual travel in 1 27 going to and returning from the seat of government by the 1 28 nearest traveled route for not more than one time per week 1 29 during a legislative session. However, any increase from time 1 30 to time in the mileage rate established by section 18.117 1 31 shall not become effective for members of the general assembly 1 32 until the convening of the next general assembly following the 1 33 session in which the increase is adopted; and this provision 1 34 shall prevail over any inconsistent provision of any present 1 35 or future statute. 2 1 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect January 1, 2 2 1997. 2 3 EXPLANATION 2 4 This bill changes the durational limitations on 2 5 legislators' expenses of office from 110 days to 100 days 2 6 during the first session and from 100 days to 90 days during 2 7 the second session of the general assembly.
