1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY KOENIGS
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution expressing the sympathy of the
1 4 Iowa General Assembly to the family of Captain John
1 5 R. Pitzen, United States Navy.
1 6 WHEREAS, Captain John R. Pitzen, a native of
1 7 Stacyville, Iowa, was listed as missing in action
1 8 after his plane was shot down over North Vietnam in
1 9 1972; and
1 10 WHEREAS, for the past twenty-four years Captain
1 11 Pitzen has been missing in action and his family has
1 12 not known his fate; and
1 13 WHEREAS, Captain Pitzen's remains have now been
1 14 positively identified and have been returned to the
1 15 United States soil for burial; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Captain Pitzen served his country
1 17 honorably as a navy pilot for eighteen years before
1 18 his plane was shot down; and
1 19 WHEREAS, all Iowans share in the loss of a native
1 20 son during wartime; NOW THEREFORE,
1 21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 22 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa General Assembly
1 23 conveys its sympathy to the family of Captain John R.
1 24 Pitzen.
1 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa General
1 26 Assembly hopes that the resolution of this terrible
1 27 tragedy will help provide the family of Captain Pitzen
1 28 with some peace of mind knowing that his remains have
1 29 been returned to his native land.
