1 2 BY NELSON of Marshall
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the women who have
1 4 served Iowa as state legislators and celebrating 100
1 5 years of women elected to state legislatures.
1 6 WHEREAS, twenty-five years before American women
1 7 had a constitutional right to vote, three women were
1 8 elected to serve as Colorado state legislators; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women
1 10 Legislators, Inc., the educational arm of the National
1 11 Order of Women Legislators, the oldest professional
1 12 association for women legislators in the country, is
1 13 coordinating state, regional, and national
1 14 celebrations to commemorate the 100th year of women
1 15 serving in a state legislature; and
1 16 WHEREAS, this centennial is being celebrated
1 17 throughout the United States to promote public
1 18 knowledge and awareness of women in state history; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the following women are current or past
1 20 members of the following Iowa General Assemblies:

5 18 and the state with diligence and enthusiasm; and
5 19 WHEREAS, the knowledge, expertise, and wise
5 20 leadership of these women have provided and continue
5 21 to provide guidance as Iowa prepares to enter the 21st
5 22 century; and
5 23 WHEREAS, these women deserve recognition for their
5 24 outstanding contributions to Iowa and for their
5 25 accomplishments as America's true "timeless pioneers";
5 26 NOW THEREFORE,
5 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
5 28 SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly extends
5 29 its sincerest appreciation to all of the women who
5 30 have unselfishly served Iowa as state legislators, and
6 1 recognizes and joins in the 100th Year Celebration of
6 2 Women in State Legislatures.
6 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
6 4 House of Representatives forward copies of this
6 5 Resolution to the Commission on the Status of Women,
6 6 which shall make every reasonable effort to forward
6 7 copies of this Resolution to the legislators
6 8 identified in this Resolution, or to the families of
6 9 those legislators who are deceased, and to the
6 10 National Foundation for Women Legislators, Inc.
