1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___
1 2 BY GIPP
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution calling upon Iowa's congressional
1 4 delegation to support a proposed amendment to the
1 5 United States Constitution to require a balanced
1 6 federal budget.
1 7 WHEREAS, due to annual federal deficits, the
1 8 cumulative amount of the national debt is in excess of
1 9 $4.7 trillion and continues to grow at a rate of
1 10 $9,600 per second; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the growth and accumulation of the
1 12 national debt has resulted in problems for the
1 13 nation's economy and for state and local government
1 14 budgets; NOW THEREFORE,
1 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 16 SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly of the
1 17 State of Iowa requests the members of Iowa's
1 18 congressional delegation along with the members of the
1 19 104th Congress of the United States to vote for the
1 20 proposed consensus version of the Balanced Budget
1 21 Amendment to the United States Constitution, scheduled
1 22 to be voted on January 19, 1995, in the House of
1 23 Representatives; and
1 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the members of the
1 25 104th Congress execute a plan that gradually balances
1 26 the federal budget by the year 2002; and
1 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
1 28 Resolution be transmitted to the Speaker of the United
1 29 States House of Representatives, the President of the
1 30 United States Senate, and all of the members of Iowa's
2 1 congressional delegation.
