  1  1    Amend the amendment, H-5515, to Senate File 2245,
  1  2 as amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    #1.  Page 48, by inserting after line 37 the
  1  5 following:
  1  6    "Sec.    .  Section 411.36, subsection 1, paragraph
  1  7 a, Code Supplement 1995, is amended to read as
  1  8 follows:
  1  9    a.  Two fire fighters from different participating
  1 10 cities, one of whom is an active member of the
  1 11 retirement system and one of whom is a retired member.
  1 12 The fire fighters shall be appointed by the governing
  1 13 body of the Iowa association of professional fire
  1 14 fighters selected pursuant to an election as provided
  1 15 in section 411.36A.
  1 16    Sec.    .  NEW SECTION.  411.36A  ELECTION TO BOARD
  1 17 – FIRE FIGHTERS.
  1 18    The fire fighters who are voting members of the
  1 19 board shall be elected by the active members of the
  1 20 system who are fire fighters.  The board shall adopt
  1 21 guidelines governing the election of the fire fighter
  1 22 members that shall provide a nomination procedure, the
  1 23 manner for each participating city fire department to
  1 24 conduct the election, and that ensures compliance with
  1 25 the requirements of state law."
  1 26    #2.  Page 50, by inserting after line 22 the
  1 27 following:
  1 28    "Sec.    .  BOARD OF TRUSTEES – TRANSITION.  The
  1 29 section of this Act that amends section 411.36 shall
  1 30 not apply to the members of the board selected
  1 31 pursuant to section 411.36, subsection 1, paragraph
  1 32 "a", prior to the effective date of this Act, and
  1 33 those members shall serve until the expiration of the
  1 34 terms to which they were appointed.  Upon the
  1 35 expiration of their terms, section 411.36, as amended
  1 36 by this Act, and section 411.36A shall apply to their
  1 37 successors."
  1 38    #3.  By renumbering as necessary.
