1 2 #1. Page 29, by inserting after line 8 the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Sec. . NEW SECTION. 904.310B EMPLOYEE
1 5 CANTEENS.
1 6 The director may establish a canteen at an
1 7 institution under the director's jurisdiction for the
1 8 sale of items to peace officers or employees of the
1 9 institution. Inmates may be employed at the canteen.
1 10 The department may establish a permanent operating
1 11 fund for each canteen which shall consist of receipts
1 12 from the sale of items from the canteen. Any moneys
1 13 in the fund over the amount needed to conduct normal
1 14 business transactions, to reimburse any accounts which
1 15 have subsidized the canteen, and to pay employees of
1 16 the canteen, including inmate-employees, shall be used
1 17 to pay for activities held on behalf of the employees
1 18 of the institution, for employee scholarships, or for
1 19 other activities or programs which directly benefit
1 20 the employees of the institution. An employee's
1 21 purchase of goods from an inmate employed in the
1 22 canteen shall not be considered a violation of section
1 23 721.12."
