1 1 Amend the amendment, H-3498, to Senate File 266, as
1 2 amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate as
1 3 follows:
1 4 #1. Page 16, by inserting after line 31 the
1 5 following:
1 6 "Sec. . NEW SECTION. 257.50 TRANSPORTATION
1 7 ASSISTANCE AID TO DISTRICTS.
1 8 1. The department shall pay transportation
1 9 assistance aid to a school district from funds
1 10 appropriated in this section to school districts whose
1 11 average transportation costs per pupil exceed the
1 12 state average transportation costs per pupil
1 13 determined under subsection 2 by fifty percent.
1 14 2. A district's average transportation costs per
1 15 pupil shall be determined by dividing the district's
1 16 actual cost for all children transported in all school
1 17 buses for a school year pursuant to section 285.1,
1 18 subsection 12, by the district's actual enrollment for
1 19 the school year, as defined in section 257.6. The
1 20 state average transportation costs per pupil shall be
1 21 determined by dividing the total actual costs for all
1 22 children transported in all districts for a school
1 23 year, by the total of all districts' actual
1 24 enrollments for the school year.
1 25 3. A school district shall annually certify its
1 26 actual cost for all children transported in all school
1 27 buses by July 15 after each school year on forms
1 28 prescribed by the department of education.
1 29 4. If a school district's average transportation
1 30 costs per pupil exceed the state average
1 31 transportation costs per pupil by fifty percent, the
1 32 department of education shall pay transportation
1 33 assistance aid equal to the amount of the difference
1 34 multiplied by the district's actual enrollment for the
1 35 school year.
1 36 5. There is appropriated from the general fund of
1 37 the state to the department of education, for each
1 38 fiscal year, an amount necessary to pay transportation
1 39 assistance aid pursuant to this section.
1 40 Transportation assistance aid is miscellaneous income
1 41 for purposes of chapter 257."
