  1  1    Amend House File 530 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 23, by inserting after line 28 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  Section 80E.1, subsection 1, Code 1995,
  1  5 is amended to read as follows:
  1  6    1.  A drug enforcement and abuse prevention
  1  7 coordinator shall be appointed by the governor from a
  1  8 list of candidates from within the attorney general's
  1  9 office provided by the attorney general, subject to
  1 10 confirmation by the senate, and shall serve at the
  1 11 pleasure of the governor.  The governor attorney
  1 12 general shall fill a vacancy in the office in the same
  1 13 manner as the original appointment was made.  The
  1 14 coordinator shall be selected primarily for
  1 15 administrative ability.  The coordinator shall not be
  1 16 selected on the basis of political affiliation and
  1 17 shall not engage in political activity while holding
  1 18 the office.  The salary of the coordinator shall be
  1 19 fixed by the governor attorney general."
  1 20    #2.  By renumbering as necessary.
