255.13  Attendant -- physician -- compensation.

If the physician appointed to examine the patient certifies that an attendant to accompany the patient to the hospital is necessary, and the university hospital attendant and ambulance service is not available, the county general assistance director may appoint an attendant who shall receive not exceeding two dollars per day for the time thus necessarily employed and actual necessary traveling expenses by the most feasible route to the hospital whether by ambulance, train, or automobile; but if such appointee is a relative of the patient or a member of the patient's immediate family, or receives a salary or other compensation from the public for the appointee's services, no such per diem compensation shall be paid. The physician appointed to make the examination and report shall receive three dollars for each examination and report so made and the physician's actual necessary expenses incurred in making such examination, but if the physician receives a salary or other compensation from the public for the physician's full-time services, no such examination fee shall be paid. The actual, necessary expenses of transporting and caring for the patient shall be paid as provided in this chapter.
