97B.6  Old records.

The department may destroy or dispose of such original reports or records as have been properly recorded or summarized in the permanent records of the department and are deemed by the director to be no longer necessary to the proper administration of this chapter. The destruction or disposition shall be made only by order of the director. Records of deceased members of the system may be destroyed ten years after the later of the final payment made to a third party on behalf of the member or the death of the member. Any moneys received from the disposition of these records shall be deposited to the credit of the public employees' retirement fund subject to rules adopted by the department.
