  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2        BY  COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
  1  3 A Resolution honoring Senator Richard F. Drake.
  1  4    WHEREAS, Senator Richard F. Drake is retiring from
  1  5 legislative office as one of the longest serving
  1  6 members of the Senate, serving seven terms in office
  1  7 as a State Senator and nearly four full terms as a
  1  8 member of the House of Representatives; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Senator Drake's distinguished career as a
  1 10 state legislator has included service as the
  1 11 chairperson of the Transportation Committee in the
  1 12 Sixty-eighth, Sixty-ninth, Seventy-seventh, Seventy-
  1 13 eighth, and Eightieth General Assemblies and as
  1 14 ranking member of the Transportation Committee in the
  1 15 Seventieth through Seventy-sixth General Assemblies;
  1 16 and
  1 17    WHEREAS, Senator Drake served as chairperson of the
  1 18 Ethics Committee in the Seventy-ninth and Eightieth
  1 19 General Assemblies and as a member of the Ethics
  1 20 Committee in the Seventieth through Eightieth General
  1 21 Assemblies from 1983 through 2004; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Senator Drake has served on many other
  1 23 standing committees throughout his 35 years of
  1 24 legislative service and has been an influential and
  1 25 devoted legislator in this state; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Senator Drake has been instrumental in the
  1 27 passage of transportation legislation for his entire
  1 28 career in the Senate; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, Senator Drake's institutional and
  1 30 historical knowledge regarding transportation issues
  2  1 is widely acknowledged and appreciated by legislators,
  2  2 staff, and the lobby; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, Senator Drake has served honorably and has
  2  4 unselfishly given of his time and efforts to further
  2  5 the interests of the State of Iowa and to provide
  2  6 beneficial programs for the citizens of Iowa; NOW
  2  7 THEREFORE,
  2  8    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate pay
  2  9 tribute to Senator Richard F. Drake, also endearingly
  2 10 known as "The Commander", for his devoted service to
  2 11 the Iowa General Assembly and the citizens of this
  2 12 state and wish him the very best in the years ahead;
  2 13 and
  2 14    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
  2 15 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Senator
  2 16 Drake.
