  1  2                 BY  WIECK and WARNSTADT
  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Morningside College Women's
  1  4    Basketball Team on their national championship.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Morningside College of Sioux City used a
  1  6 record setting three-point shooting display to win its
  1  7 first-ever women's basketball national championship
  1  8 when it defeated Cedarville University 87-74 in the
  1  9 title game of the NAIA Division II National Tournament
  1 10 in Sioux City's Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the Morningside Mustangs made a national
  1 12 tournament single-game record 17 three-point field
  1 13 goals to erase the former record of 15 three-pointers
  1 14 the Mustangs made in their opening round win; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, Morningside shot a sizzling 48.6 percent
  1 16 from beyond the three-point arc with 17 treys in 35
  1 17 attempts; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, Morningside had 47 three-point field goals
  1 19 in its five national tournament games to also set a
  1 20 record; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, Megan Cloud led the way by bombing in
  1 22 eight of 11 three-point shots to tie the national
  1 23 tournament single-game record set in the first game of
  1 24 the tournament by Kate Lokken, the only senior on the
  1 25 team; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Megan Cloud finished with 34 points to go
  1 27 along with six assists and six rebounds, and was named
  1 28 the tournament's Most Valuable Player; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, Megan Cloud was joined on the all-
  1 30 tournament team by teammates Brittany Carper and Kate
  2  1 Lokken; and
  2  2    WHEREAS, Morningside finished its storybook season
  2  3 with a 34-4 record to set a school record for
  2  4 victories, while Cedarville bowed out at 35-3 and had
  2  5 its 23-game winning streak snapped; and
  2  6    WHEREAS, Coach Jamie Sale was named NAIA Division
  2  7 II Coach of the Year and Brittany Carper, former Sioux
  2  8 City East standout, was named NAIA Division II
  2  9 National Player of the Year; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 10    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2 11 congratulates the Morningside College Women's
  2 12 Basketball Team and their coach on winning the NAIA
  2 13 Division II Women's Basketball National Championship
  2 14 and thanks them for the honor and recognition they
  2 15 have brought to Morningside College and to the State
  2 16 of Iowa; and
  2 17    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 18 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 19 presentation to Coach Jamie Sale and the Morningside
  2 20 College Women's Basketball Team.
