1 3 A Resolution to recognize Technical Sergeant Brian Dutcher
1 4 of the Iowa Air National Guard and his employer, Iowa
1 5 Select Farms, for their receipt of the George W. Bush
1 6 Award.
1 7 WHEREAS, the George W. Bush Award recognizes a
1 8 traditional national guardsman who has made
1 9 significant contributions to the Air National Guard;
1 10 and
1 11 WHEREAS, the George W. Bush Award also recognizes
1 12 the national guardsman's employer, without whose
1 13 support these significant contributions would not have
1 14 been possible; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Dutcher and his
1 16 civilian supervisor at Iowa Select Farms, Stephen
1 17 Hartwell, were honored in a ceremony held at the Air
1 18 National Guard Senior Leadership Conference in
1 19 Baltimore, Maryland, on December 16, 2003, where they
1 20 received the third annual George W. Bush Award; and
1 21 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Dutcher is a five-year
1 22 member of the 132d Fighter Wing, a combat F-16 unit,
1 23 located in Des Moines, Iowa, where he is a senior
1 24 munitions controller; and
1 25 WHEREAS, the 132d Fighter Wing has 1,000 members
1 26 and has supported recent operations such as Operation
1 27 Northern Watch, Operation Southern Watch, Operation
1 28 Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation
1 29 Iraqi Freedom, and was one of the first units in the
1 30 Air National Guard with precision guided munitions
2 1 delivery capability; and
2 2 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Dutcher has been
2 3 selected to attend the Academy of Military Science
2 4 this spring and upon completion will be commissioned
2 5 as an officer in the Air National Guard, specializing
2 6 in the area of intelligence; and
2 7 WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Dutcher is employed by
2 8 Iowa Select Farms as an information technology manager
2 9 and network administrator; and
2 10 WHEREAS, Iowa Select Farms, located in Iowa Falls,
2 11 is the largest Iowa-based pork producer in the state
2 12 and employs over 900 people in 26 counties; and
2 13 WHEREAS, Jeff Hansen, President and CEO of Iowa
2 14 Select Farms, recognizes the benefits of hiring
2 15 military personnel and of providing appropriate and
2 16 responsible support to employees of Iowa Select Farms
2 17 who are members of the Iowa National Guard and to
2 18 their families; and
2 19 WHEREAS, Iowa Select Farms plans to match the $500
2 20 George W. Bush Award with a $1,000 donation to The
2 21 Fisher House Program which supports families of
2 22 America's military in times of need; and
2 23 WHEREAS, the people of the State of Iowa take great
2 24 pride in the contributions of Technical Sergeant
2 25 Dutcher and his employer, Iowa Select Farms, to the
2 26 Air National Guard and in their receipt of the George
2 27 W. Bush Award; NOW THEREFORE,
2 28 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 29 recognize Technical Sergeant Dutcher and the
2 30 management of Iowa Select Farms for their dedication
3 1 and contributions to the Air National Guard and to the
3 2 132d Fighter Wing and for their receipt of the George
3 3 W. Bush Award; and
3 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
3 5 Resolution be presented to Technical Sergeant Brian
3 6 Dutcher, to a representative of Iowa Select farms, and
3 7 to a representative of the 132d Fighter Wing.
