1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY FRAISE, COURTNEY, BLACK, and BEALL
1 3 A Resolution designating the week of May 4, 2003,
1 4 National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.
1 5 WHEREAS, the operation of correctional facilities
1 6 represents a crucial component of the criminal justice
1 7 system of the United States; and
1 8 WHEREAS, correctional personnel play a vital role
1 9 in protecting the rights of the public to be
1 10 safeguarded from criminal activity; and
1 11 WHEREAS, correctional personnel are responsible for
1 12 the care, custody, and dignity of persons charged to
1 13 their care; and
1 14 WHEREAS, correctional personnel work under
1 15 demanding circumstances and face danger in their daily
1 16 work lives; NOW THEREFORE,
1 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
1 18 designates the week beginning May 4, 2003, "National
1 19 Correctional Officers and Employees Week"; and
1 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate requests
1 21 that the President of the United States issue a
1 22 proclamation calling upon the people of the United
1 23 States to observe National Correctional Officers and
1 24 Employees Week with appropriate ceremonies and
1 25 activities.
