PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 715A.2A, subsection 3, paragraph c, 1 2 Code 2003, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 c. For a third or subsequent violation, not less than 1 4threeseven thousand five hundred dollars and not more than 1 5 ten thousand dollars for each unauthorized alien hired or 1 6 employed. 1 7 EXPLANATION 1 8 This bill relates to the unauthorized hiring of aliens in 1 9 the United States. 1 10 The bill raises the minimum civil penalty for a third or 1 11 subsequent offense by an employer who hires an unauthorized 1 12 alien from $3,000 to $7,500. The maximum penalty is $10,000 1 13 for a third or subsequent violation. 1 14 Under the bill and in current law, an employer on a first 1 15 offense hiring of an unauthorized alien shall pay a civil 1 16 penalty of not less than $250 and not more than $2,000, and 1 17 for a second penalty an employer pays not less than $2,000 and 1 18 not more than $5,000. 1 19 LSB 5755SS 80 1 20 jm/pj/5
