1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 29A.101A TERMINATION OF LEASE OR
1 2 RENTAL AGREEMENT BY SERVICE MEMBER.
1 3 1. A service member may terminate the lease or rental
1 4 agreement for any premises used as a dwelling by the service
1 5 member or the service member's dependents at any time during
1 6 the service member's period of military service if the rent on
1 7 the premises occupied by the service member or the service
1 8 member's dependents is less than one thousand two hundred
1 9 dollars per month.
1 10 2. Any provisions in chapter 562A not in conflict with
1 11 this section shall apply.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill allows an Iowa national guard service member or a
1 14 service member's dependents to terminate a lease or rental
1 15 agreement for any premises used as a dwelling by the service
1 16 member or the service member's dependents at any time during
1 17 the service member's period of military service if the rent on
1 18 the premises is less than $1,200 per month.
1 19 "Service member" means a member of the military forces of
1 20 the state performing military service. "Military service"
1 21 means full-time active state service or state active duty,
1 22 authorized by the governor, for a period of at least 90 days
1 23 beginning on or after April 22, 2002.
