1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 135C.35 ADMINISTRATION OF
1 2 MEDICATIONS – STAFFING.
1 3 1. A person authorized to administer medications in a
1 4 nursing facility shall not administer medications during a
1 5 consecutive period in excess of ten hours.
1 6 2. A person authorized to administer medications in a
1 7 nursing facility who is on duty in excess of ten hours in a
1 8 twenty-four-hour period shall not administer medications
1 9 beyond the initial ten consecutive hours of the twenty-four-
1 10 hour period.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill prohibits a person who is authorized to
1 13 administer medications in a nursing facility from
1 14 administering medications during a consecutive period in
1 15 excess of 10 hours. Additionally, a person authorized to
1 16 administer medications in a nursing facility who is on duty in
1 17 excess of 10 hours in a 24-hour period is prohibited from
1 18 administering medications beyond the initial 10 consecutive
1 19 hours of the 24-hour period.
