1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11, Code 2003, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 15. The board of directors of a school
1 4 district or the authorities in charge of a nonpublic school
1 5 may credit a student with participation in physical education,
1 6 service learning, or health education equivalent to one-eighth
1 7 unit if the student successfully completes basic training in
1 8 the Iowa army national guard, the Iowa air national guard, or
1 9 as a member of the active military forces of the United States
1 10 or as a member of the army national guard of the United States
1 11 or the air national guard of the United States.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill permits school districts and nonpublic schools to
1 14 credit a student who completes national guard or United States
1 15 military basic training with participation in physical
1 16 education, service learning, or health education equivalent to
1 17 one-eighth unit.
