1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY WILDERDYKE, DRAKE, and BAUDLER
1 3 A Resolution honoring Bob and Sheila Everhart for their
1 4 efforts to preserve and promote folk, country, and
1 5 bluegrass music in the Midwest.
1 6 WHEREAS, the State of Iowa enjoys an exceptionally
1 7 long, proud, and diverse musical heritage with strong
1 8 roots in folk, country, and bluegrass music; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the members of the House of
1 10 Representatives welcome with pleasure the opportunity
1 11 to applaud the achievements of a remarkable couple who
1 12 have truly distinguished themselves in their efforts
1 13 to preserve and to promote the time-honored art of
1 14 folk, country, and bluegrass music: Bob and Sheila
1 15 Everhart of Anita, Iowa; and
1 16 WHEREAS, this year marks the thirty-first
1 17 anniversary of the National Traditional Country Music
1 18 Association established by Bob Everhart in 1972 in
1 19 order to bring a different type of entertainment and
1 20 music to this part of the country; and
1 21 WHEREAS, through the leadership and determination
1 22 of Bob and Sheila Everhart along with the input and
1 23 contributions of their many volunteers and helpers,
1 24 the Missouri Valley Old Time Country Music Festival
1 25 and Contest has enjoyed 28 years of outstanding
1 26 success as a program aimed at providing excellent
1 27 quality and wholesome family entertainment; and
1 28 WHEREAS, the Missouri Valley Old Time Country Music
1 29 Festival and Contest has had a substantial and highly
1 30 positive impact on the entire western Iowa community
2 1 while attracting many tourists to the area each year,
2 2 and has maintained an enviable reputation for its role
2 3 in helping to preserve folk, country, and bluegrass
2 4 music, a genuine American art form that originated
2 5 with the homesteaders and pioneers who settled Iowa;
2 6 and
2 7 WHEREAS, The First Annual Missouri Valley Old Time
2 8 Country Music Festival and Contest will be held August
2 9 25-31, 2003, at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, where
2 10 top musicians from throughout Iowa, the United States,
2 11 and around the world will gather to delight fans of
2 12 all ages and backgrounds; and
2 13 WHEREAS, key events in the upcoming Missouri Valley
2 14 Old Time Country Music Festival and Contest will
2 15 include a number of instrument workshops and
2 16 demonstrations, and many exciting band performances;
2 17 NOW THEREFORE,
2 18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 19 That the members of the House of Representatives
2 20 hereby join unanimously in commending and applauding
2 21 Bob and Sheila Everhart and all those individuals who
2 22 have devoted their time, talents, and resources toward
2 23 the ongoing success of the Old Time Country Music
2 24 Festival and Contest for their admirable efforts which
2 25 have helped to make Missouri Valley "The Old-Time
2 26 Folk, Country, and Bluegrass Capital of the Midwest"
2 27 and which have helped to ensure the continued
2 28 enjoyment of folk, country, and bluegrass music by
2 29 future generations; and
2 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
3 1 House of Representatives prepare a properly inscribed
3 2 copy of this Resolution for Bob and Shelia Everhart.
