1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY SMITH
1 3 A Resolution honoring the City of Marshalltown on its
1 4 sesquicentennial year.
1 5 WHEREAS, the City of Marshalltown, founded in 1853
1 6 by Henry Anson, who exclaimed, "I've found the
1 7 prettiest place in Iowa", is celebrating its 150th
1 8 anniversary; and
1 9 WHEREAS, Marshalltown is Iowa's fifteenth largest
1 10 city and is home to several century businesses such as
1 11 Lennox and Fisher Controls; and
1 12 WHEREAS, since 1887, Iowa veterans have called
1 13 Marshalltown home at the Iowa Veterans Home; and
1 14 WHEREAS, Marshalltown has one of the finest
1 15 Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art collections
1 16 in the country at the Fisher Art Gallery; and
1 17 WHEREAS, Marshalltown is the home of the Iowa State
1 18 High School Baseball Tournament, the Iowa
1 19 International Go-cart Raceway, the Big Tree House, and
1 20 will soon be home of the Heart of Iowa Cultural and
1 21 Recreation Center; and
1 22 WHEREAS, Marshalltown is the hometown of Jeff
1 23 Clement, the national high school home run record
1 24 holder, and Professional Baseball Hall of Fame
1 25 inductee "Cap" Anson; and
1 26 WHEREAS, Marshalltown is the hometown of film stars
1 27 Jean Seberg, Mary Beth Hurt, and Toby Huss; NOW
1 28 THEREFORE,
1 29 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 30 That the House of Representatives recognizes and
2 1 extends its congratulations to the City of
2 2 Marshalltown on its sesquicentennial anniversary year
2 3 and for its 150 years of service to its citizens and
2 4 to the State of Iowa.
2 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 6 this Resolution be prepared and presented to the
2 7 Honorable Floyd Harthun, Mayor of the City of
2 8 Marshalltown.
