1 4 PROVIDING FOR A FEE FOR TRANSPORTING AN INMATE FOR MEDICAL OR
1 5 DENTAL CARE.

1 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 9 Section 1. Section 904.108, subsection 6, Code 2003, is
1 10 amended to read as follows:
1 11 6. The director may charge an inmate a correctional fee
1 12 for custodial expenses incurred or which may be incurred while
1 13 the inmate is in the custody of the department. The custodial
1 14 expenses may include, but are not limited to, board and room,
1 15 medical and dental fees including any necessary transportation
1 16 fee not to exceed five dollars per visit, education costs,
1 17 clothing costs, and the costs of supervision, services, and
1 18 treatment to the inmate. The correctional fee shall not
1 19 exceed the actual cost of keeping the inmate in custody. The
1 20 correctional fees collected pursuant to this subsection shall
1 21 be credited as a reimbursement to the appropriate correctional
1 22 institution. This subsection does not limit the right of the
1 23 director to obtain any other remedy authorized by law.
