  1  4 RELATING TO THE AUTHORIZATION OF PODIATRISTS TO ADMINISTER
  1  5    ANESTHESIA.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 149.5, Code 2003, is amended to read as
  1 10 follows:
  1 11    149.5  AMPUTATIONS – GENERAL ANESTHETICS ANESTHESIA.
  1 12    A license to practice podiatry shall not authorize the
  1 13 licensee to amputate the human foot or use any anesthetics
  1 14 other than local.
  1 15    A licensed podiatric physician may administer local
  1 16 anesthesia.  Conscious sedation may be administered by a
  1 17 licensed podiatric physician in a hospital or an ambulatory
  1 18 surgical center.
  1 19    A licensed podiatric physician may prescribe and administer
  1 20 drugs for the treatment of human foot ailments as provided in
  1 21 section 149.1.
