  1  3    #1.  Page 48, by striking line 32 and inserting the
  1  4 following:

  1  6    #2.  Page 48, by inserting after line 32 the
  1  7 following:
  1  8    "   .  JOBS FOR AMERICA'S GRADUATES
  1  9    For school districts to provide direct services to
  1 10 the most at-risk senior high school students enrolled
  1 11 in school districts through direct intervention by a
  1 12 jobs for America's graduates specialist:  
  1 13 .................................................. $    400,000"
  1 14    #3.  Page 48, by inserting before line 33 the
  1 15 following:
  1 16    "   .  CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP GRANTS
  1 17    For competitive grants to be awarded in no more
  1 18 than four school districts:  
  1 19 .................................................. $    500,000
  1 20    a.  The department shall establish a competitive
  1 21 grant program that supports school district efforts to
  1 22 address the achievement gap.  Priority shall be given
  1 23 to school districts using research-based strategies
  1 24 that have the highest probability of improving student
  1 25 achievement.  A grant in the amount of $125,000 shall
  1 26 be awarded no later than October 1, 2004, to a school
  1 27 district in each of the following size school
  1 28 districts:
  1 29    (1)  A school district with an enrollment of 1199
  1 30 or less.
  1 31    (2)  A school district with an enrollment of more
  1 32 than 1199, but not more than 4749.
  1 33    (3)  A school district with an enrollment of more
  1 34 than 4749.
  1 35    (4)  A school district with any enrollment.
  1 36    b.  Grant moneys may be used by recipient school
  1 37 districts for purposes including, but not limited to,
  1 38 assigning highly skilled teachers to high-need
  1 39 students and highly skilled administrators to high-
  1 40 need buildings, maintaining a commitment to cultural
  1 41 competency training, sustaining high expectations for
  1 42 all children, and creating partnerships between
  1 43 schools, communities, and businesses."
