  1  1    Section 1.  Section 533.55, subsection 2, Code 2001, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  The superintendent may employ special appoint
  1  4 assistants, examiners, and other employees as the
  1  5 superintendent deems necessary to carry out this chapter the
  1  6 proper discharge of duties imposed upon the superintendent by
  1  7 the laws of this state.  The superintendent, subject to
  1  8 approval by the board, shall establish salaries for the
  1  9 persons employed.  Pay plans shall be established for
  1 10 employees, other than clerical employees, who examine the
  1 11 accounts and affairs of credit unions and who examine the
  1 12 accounts and affairs of other persons, subject to supervision
  1 13 and regulation by the superintendent, that are substantially
  1 14 equivalent to those paid by the national credit union
  1 15 administration and other federal supervisory agencies in this
  1 16 area of the United States.  
  1 17                           EXPLANATION
  1 18    This bill amends Code section 533.55 to provide that
  1 19 employees of the credit union division of the department of
  1 20 commerce who are appointed by the superintendent to examine
  1 21 accounts shall be paid according to a pay plan that is
  1 22 substantially equivalent to those paid by the national credit
  1 23 union administration and other federal supervisory agencies in
  1 24 this area of the United States.
