1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY McKEAN
1 3 A Resolution congratulating the University of Iowa Mock
1 4 Trial Team on winning the 2002 Undergraduate Inter-
1 5 collegiate Mock Trial Competition National
1 6 Championship.
1 7 WHEREAS, the Undergraduate Mock Trial Program
1 8 originated in 1985 with the objective of providing
1 9 undergraduate students with an opportunity to learn
1 10 first-hand about the work of trial attorneys, to
1 11 understand the judicial system, and to develop
1 12 critical thinking and enhanced communication skills;
1 13 and
1 14 WHEREAS, the program is designed to facilitate the
1 15 growth of the individual student as a person able to
1 16 work with and support others, as a knowledgeable
1 17 citizen acquainted with the legal system, and as a
1 18 community leader working for the betterment of
1 19 humanity; and
1 20 WHEREAS, the program has grown from an initial mock
1 21 trial competition involving 12 teams competing from
1 22 eight colleges and universities to the most recent
1 23 season of competitions involving over 400 registered
1 24 teams representing 37 states and the District of
1 25 Columbia; and
1 26 WHEREAS, 64 mock trial teams recently competed in
1 27 Des Moines, Iowa, from April 4 through April 8, 2002,
1 28 in a tournament leading to the title of national
1 29 champion; and
1 30 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Mock Trial Team won
2 1 both the divisional and national championship during
2 2 that competition; NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 4 congratulates the University of Iowa Mock Trial Team
2 5 on its outstanding achievement in winning the 2002
2 6 Undergraduate Intercollegiate Mock Trial Competition
2 7 National Championship; and
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 9 this Resolution be prepared and forwarded by the
2 10 Secretary of the Senate to the members of the
2 11 University of Iowa Mock Trial Team, the President of
2 12 the University of Iowa, and the President of the
2 13 American Mock Trial Association.
