1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
1 3 A Resolution honoring Senator John W. Jensen.
1 4 WHEREAS, Senator John W. Jensen is retiring from
1 5 legislative office after completing six terms in
1 6 office as a State Senator; and
1 7 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen's distinguished career as a
1 8 state legislator has included service as Majority
1 9 Leader during the Seventy-third General Assembly, and
1 10 service for 10 years as an Assistant Minority Leader
1 11 during the Seventieth through Seventy-fourth General
1 12 Assemblies; and
1 13 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen's legislative career has
1 14 also included service as Chairperson of the Commerce
1 15 Committee and of the Transportation, Infrastructure,
1 16 and Capitals Appropriations Subcommittee; and as Vice
1 17 Chairperson of the Transportation Committee; and as a
1 18 member of the Commerce Committee for 22 years; and
1 19 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen has served on many other
1 20 standing committees throughout his 24 years of
1 21 legislative service and has been an influential and
1 22 devoted legislator in this state; and
1 23 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen has sponsored and been
1 24 instrumental in the passage of legislation pertinent
1 25 to Iowa relating to commerce, transportation, and
1 26 State Capitol restoration and preservation; and
1 27 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen has made the restoration,
1 28 conservation, and preservation of the State Capitol
1 29 his personal and professional mission during his
1 30 tenure in the Iowa Senate, and without regard to self-
2 1 interest has raised public and private funds for the
2 2 purpose of returning the State Capitol to its full
2 3 grandeur; and
2 4 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen's devotion to the State
2 5 Capitol has included service as Chairperson and Vice
2 6 Chairperson of the Capital Projects Committee of the
2 7 Legislative Council, as well as service on the Capital
2 8 Projects Workgroup and on the Capitol Planning
2 9 Commission, and charter membership in the Friends of
2 10 Capitol Hill, Inc.; and
2 11 WHEREAS, Senator Jensen has served honorably and
2 12 has unselfishly given of his time and efforts to
2 13 further the interests of the State of Iowa and to
2 14 provide beneficial programs for the citizens of Iowa;
2 15 NOW THEREFORE,
2 16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate pay
2 17 tribute to Senator John W. Jensen for his devoted
2 18 service to the Iowa General Assembly and the citizens
2 19 of this state and wish him the very best in the years
2 20 ahead; and
2 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 22 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Senator
2 23 Jensen.
