1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY JENSEN and HORN
1 3 A Resolution thanking the contractors, subcontractors,
1 4 artisans, skilled workers, and state employees who
1 5 have contributed to the effort to restore the Iowa
1 6 State Capitol.
1 7 WHEREAS, the Iowa State Capitol is a magnificent
1 8 landmark for all of Iowa and is listed in the National
1 9 Register of Historic Places; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the efforts to restore the Capitol began
1 11 in 1983 with an appropriation from the General
1 12 Assembly to commence the exterior restoration of the
1 13 building; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the restoration of the Iowa State Capitol
1 15 has included extensive projects on the exterior of the
1 16 building such as repair of the small copper-covered
1 17 domes at each corner of the building and regilding of
1 18 the shining dome with gold leaf; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the restoration includes continuing
1 20 projects on the interior of the building such as
1 21 enhancing the painting on the interior of the dome,
1 22 legislative chamber renovation, and returning the
1 23 detailed stenciling and painting to the walls and
1 24 ceilings of various rooms throughout the Capitol; and
1 25 WHEREAS, hundreds of artisans and skilled workers
1 26 have made significant contributions to the restoration
1 27 with good workmanship and courtesy; and
1 28 WHEREAS, many state employees in the legislative
1 29 and executive branches and many contractors and
1 30 subcontractors have proudly devoted significant time
2 1 and effort to the restoration of the building; and
2 2 WHEREAS, the restoration of the Iowa State Capitol
2 3 will continue until the building and grounds are
2 4 restored to their original beauty and grace; NOW
2 5 THEREFORE,
2 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 7 extends its sincere thanks to all persons who
2 8 contributed their time and effort to the continuing
2 9 restoration of the Iowa State Capitol; and
2 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
2 11 Resolution be made available to the artisans and
2 12 skilled workers who have labored to restore the Iowa
2 13 State Capitol.
