1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY LAMBERTI
1 3 A Resolution honoring the Drake Women's Basketball Team.
1 4 WHEREAS, the fans of Drake University and the
1 5 citizens of Iowa are greatly pleased that the Drake
1 6 Women's Basketball Team had a spectacular season in
1 7 compiling a 23-7 record and its fifth consecutive 20-
1 8 or-more-victories season; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the Drake Women's Basketball Team made its
1 10 fans and all Iowans proud by receiving a bid as 12th
1 11 seed in the Women's East Regional NCAA Tournament, the
1 12 second straight year Drake has played in the East
1 13 Regional; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the Drake Women's Basketball Team overcame
1 15 adversity early in the season when two players were
1 16 diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and
1 17 were forced to sit out the season; and
1 18 WHEREAS, individual athletes on the team have been
1 19 honored by being named to the All-Missouri Valley
1 20 Conference Team, the Missouri Valley Conference All-
1 21 Freshman Team, and the Missouri Valley Conference All-
1 22 Tournament Team; and
1 23 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa recognize the
1 24 academic accomplishments of the Drake Women's
1 25 Basketball Team for having two Bulldogs named to the
1 26 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team
1 27 and one named to the Verizon Academic All-District
1 28 Team; and
1 29 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa applaud Drake Women's
1 30 Basketball Head Coach Lisa Stone for being the first
2 1 rookie coach ever to be named the Missouri Valley
2 2 Conference Coach of the Year, and who, by winning 23
2 3 games, extended the league record for league wins and
2 4 overall wins by a first-year Missouri Valley
2 5 Conference coach; NOW THEREFORE,
2 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 7 congratulates Coach Lisa Stone and the Drake Women's
2 8 Basketball Team on their successful season and thanks
2 9 them for the honor and excitement they brought to the
2 10 State of Iowa.
