  1  1               SENATE RESOLUTION NO. _____
  1  2            BY KRAMER, IVERSON, and GRONSTAL
  1  3 A Resolution honoring George C. Finkenauer, Doorkeeper
  1  4    of the Senate.
  1  5    WHEREAS, George Finkenauer joined the Senate as a
  1  6 Doorkeeper on January 19, 1990, after his retirement
  1  7 from Firestone Tire and Rubber; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, George arrived early at his post every
  1  9 morning, and dutifully made the coffee, earning for
  1 10 himself the sobriquet of "Mr. Coffee", and the
  1 11 grateful thanks of the later arrivals; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, George served his country in World War II,
  1 13 at the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day, and in the
  1 14 liberation of Nazi concentration camps, all of which
  1 15 increased his appreciation for the beauty and value of
  1 16 life; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, George took pride in his heritage, hailing
  1 18 from Dubuque, and in his faith, and was especially
  1 19 proud of having been chosen on occasion to offer the
  1 20 opening prayer in the Senate; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, George was known for his kind heart and
  1 22 generous nature, and his quiet and capable attention
  1 23 to his duties; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, George truly enjoyed his work in the
  1 25 Senate, and his recollection of names of family
  1 26 members of his coworkers was but one small indicator
  1 27 of his caring nature; and
  1 28    WHEREAS, George's well-earned retirement has left
  1 29 him to spend more time with his wife Kathleen; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, George's years of loyal service and
  2  1 attention are well-deserving of honor and acclaim; NOW
  2  2 THEREFORE,
  2  3    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That George C.
  2  4 Finkenauer be publicly recognized for his dedicated
  2  5 service to the Iowa Senate, congratulated on his
  2  6 retirement, and wished all the best.
  2  7    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a formal copy of this
  2  8 Resolution be presented to George C. Finkenauer, with
  2  9 the thanks of the Senate for a job well done.
