PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 455F.1, subsection 4, Code 2001, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 4. "Household hazardous material" means a product used for 1 4 residential purposes and designated by rule of the department 1 5 of natural resources and may include any hazardous substance 1 6 as defined in section 455B.411, subsection 2; and any 1 7 hazardous waste as defined in section 455B.411, subsection 3; 1 8 and shall include but is not limited to the following 1 9 materials: personal computers, motor oils, motor oil filters, 1 10 gasoline and diesel additives, degreasers, waxes, polishes, 1 11 pure solvents, lacquers, thinners, caustic household cleaners, 1 12 spot and stain remover with petroleum base, petroleum-based 1 13 fertilizers, and paints with the exception of latex-based 1 14 paints. However, "household hazardous material" does not 1 15 include noncaustic household cleaners, laundry detergents or 1 16 soaps, dishwashing compounds, chlorine bleach, personal care 1 17 products, personal care soaps, cosmetics, and medications. 1 18 Sec. 2. Section 455F.1, Code 2001, is amended by adding 1 19 the following new subsection: 1 20 NEW SUBSECTION. 5A. "Personal computer" means an 1 21 electronic device owned by an individual for personal use 1 22 which performs logical, arithmetical, and memory functions by 1 23 manipulations of electronic or magnetic impulses, and includes 1 24 all input, output, processing, storage, and communication 1 25 facilities which are connected or related to the computer and 1 26 any related peripheral equipment. 1 27 EXPLANATION 1 28 This bill includes personal computers in the definition of 1 29 household hazardous waste. A personal computer is defined as 1 30 an electronic device owned by an individual for personal use 1 31 which performs logical, arithmetical, and memory functions by 1 32 manipulations of electronic or magnetic impulses, and includes 1 33 all input, output, processing, storage, and communication 1 34 facilities which are connected or related to the computer and 1 35 any related peripheral equipment. As household hazardous 2 1 waste, personal computers would be included in collection and 2 2 education programs administered under Code chapter 455F. 2 3 LSB 1847XS 79 2 4 tm/cls/14
