  1  1    Section 1.  Section 607A.8, Code 2001, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    607A.8  FEES AND EXPENSES FOR JURORS.
  1  4    Grand jurors and petit jurors in all courts shall receive
  1  5 ten forty dollars as compensation for each day's service or
  1  6 attendance, including attendance on a jury.  Prospective
  1  7 jurors shall receive twenty-five dollars as compensation for
  1  8 each day's attendance required for the purpose of being
  1  9 considered for service, reimbursement.  Reimbursement for
  1 10 mileage expenses shall be paid at the rate specified in
  1 11 section 602.1509 for each mile traveled each day to and from
  1 12 their residences to the place of attendance or service or
  1 13 attendance, and reimbursement for actual expenses of parking,
  1 14 as determined by the clerk.  A juror who is a person with a
  1 15 disability may receive reimbursement for the costs of
  1 16 alternate transportation from the juror's residence to the
  1 17 place of attendance or service or attendance.  A juror shall
  1 18 not receive reimbursement for mileage expenses or actual
  1 19 expenses of parking when the juror travels in a vehicle for
  1 20 which another juror is receiving reimbursement for mileage and
  1 21 parking expenses.  
  1 22                           EXPLANATION
  1 23    This bill raises compensation for jury duty from $10 to $40
  1 24 a day for jurors actually required to serve on a jury, and
  1 25 from $10 a day to $25 a day for prospective jurors called to
  1 26 attend court but not required to serve on a jury.
