  1  1    Amend Senate File 165 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 3, by inserting after line 9, the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  CONTINGENT EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act
  1  5 shall only take effect upon a decision by the United
  1  6 States supreme court in Alexander v. Sandoval, No. 99-
  1  7 1908, upholding the constitutionality of the provision
  1  8 of the Constitution of the State of Alabama that
  1  9 establishes English as the official language of the
  1 10 state of Alabama."
  1 11    #2.  Title page, line 2, by inserting after the
  1 12 figure "2001" the following:  "and providing a
  1 13 contingent effective date".
  1 14    #3.  By renumbering as necessary.
