1 1 Section 1. DISPROPORTIONATE SHARE PAYMENTS – CHILDREN'S
1 2 HOSPITALS. The department of human services shall designate a
1 3 children's hospital that meets the criteria for a voting
1 4 member of the national association of children's hospitals and
1 5 related institutions and that operates as part of a licensed
1 6 hospital, as a qualifying hospital for the purpose of receipt
1 7 of disproportionate share hospital payments for inpatient
1 8 services under the medical assistance program. Such a
1 9 children's hospital shall be eligible for receipt of
1 10 disproportionate share hospital funds, whether or not the
1 11 children's hospital has a separate federal Medicare provider
1 12 number. The department of human services shall adopt rules
1 13 and shall seek an amendment from the centers for Medicare and
1 14 Medicaid of the United States department of health and human
1 15 services, as necessary to implement this Act.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill directs the department of human services to
1 18 designate a children's hospital that meets the criteria for a
1 19 voting member of the national association of children's
1 20 hospitals and related institutions and that operates as part
1 21 of a licensed hospital, as a qualifying hospital for the
1 22 purpose of receipt of disproportionate share hospital payments
1 23 for inpatient services under the medical assistance program.
1 24 Such a children's hospital is eligible for receipt of
1 25 disproportionate share hospital funds, whether or not the
1 26 children's hospital has a separate federal Medicare provider
1 27 number. The bill directs the department of human services to
