1 1 Section 1. Section 232.116, subsection 2, unnumbered
1 2 paragraph 1, Code 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 In considering whether to terminate the rights of a parent
1 4 under this section, the court shall give primary consideration
1 5 to the best interest of the child, to the child's safety, to
1 6 the best placement for furthering the long-term nurturing and
1 7 growth of the child, and to the physical, mental, and
1 8 emotional condition and needs of the child. This
1 9 consideration may include any of the following:
1 10 EXPLANATION
1 11 This bill provides that in considering whether to terminate
1 12 the parental rights of a child under the juvenile justice
1 13 code, the juvenile court is required to give primary
1 14 consideration to the best interest of the child along with
1 15 other criteria in existing law.
