1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 455D.22 WHITE GOODS.
1 2 1. For purposes of this section, "white goods" means a
1 3 major household appliance including a refrigerator, stove,
1 4 oven, freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer, clothes dryer, and
1 5 microwave oven.
1 6 2. Land disposal of white goods is prohibited.
1 7 3. White goods shall be recycled or reused. The
1 8 department shall ensure that recycling services are available
1 9 in all counties for white goods. Recycling services shall
1 10 include all of the following:
1 11 a. The removal of capacitors from white goods that may
1 12 contain polychlorinated biphenyls.
1 13 b. The removal of ballasts from white goods that may
1 14 contain polychlorinated biphenyls.
1 15 c. The removal of chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gas from
1 16 white goods.
1 17 d. The recycling or reuse of the metals, including
1 18 mercury, of white goods.
1 19 EXPLANATION
1 20 This bill prohibits land disposal of white goods and
1 21 requires the recycling or reuse of white goods. The bill
1 22 provides that "white goods" means a major household appliance
1 23 including a refrigerator, stove, oven, freezer, dishwasher,
1 24 clothes washer, clothes dryer, and microwave oven. The bill
1 25 provides that the department shall ensure that recycling
1 26 services are available in all counties for white goods. The
1 27 bill provides that recycling services shall include the
1 28 removal of capacitors from white goods that may contain
1 29 polychlorinated biphenyls, the removal of ballasts from white
1 30 goods that may contain polychlorinated biphenyls, the removal
1 31 of chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gas from white goods, and
1 32 the recycling or reuse of the metals, including mercury, of
1 33 white goods.
