1 1 Section 1. Section 15.343, subsection 2, paragraph a, Code
1 2 2001, is amended by striking the paragraph and inserting in
1 3 lieu thereof the following:
1 4 a. Training, retraining, and educational initiatives for
1 5 targeted industries as recommended by the Iowa new economy
1 6 council.
1 7 Sec. 2. Section 15.343, subsection 3, paragraph b, Code
1 8 2001, is amended by striking the paragraph and inserting in
1 9 lieu thereof the following:
1 10 b. Moneys in the workforce development fund shall be
1 11 allocated as follows:
1 12 (1) One million eight hundred fifty thousand dollars shall
1 13 be used for purposes provided in subsection 2, paragraph "a".
1 14 (2) Four million five hundred thousand dollars shall be
1 15 used for purposes provided in section 260F.6.
1 16 (3) One million fifty thousand dollars shall be used for
1 17 purposes provided in section 260F.6B.
1 18 (4) Six hundred thousand dollars for purposes provided in
1 19 section 260F.6A.
1 20 EXPLANATION
1 21 This bill amends provisions related to the workforce
1 22 development fund.
1 23 The bill amends one of the specific uses of the moneys in
1 24 the workforce development fund related to training and
1 25 retraining programs for targeted industries. The bill
1 26 provides that the moneys may instead be used for training,
1 27 retraining, and educational initiatives for targeted
1 28 industries as recommended by the Iowa new economy council.
1 29 The bill provides that, of the moneys in the workforce
1 30 development fund, $1,850,000 shall be used for purposes
1 31 related to training, retraining, and educational initiatives
1 32 for targeted industries; $4,500,000 shall be used for purposes
1 33 of the job training fund; $1,050,000 shall be used for
1 34 purposes of the high technology apprenticeship program; and
1 35 $600,000 shall be used for purposes of business network
2 1 training.
