  1  1    Section 1.  Section 915.94, Code 2001, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    915.94  VICTIM COMPENSATION FUND.
  1  4    A victim compensation fund is established as a separate
  1  5 fund in the state treasury.  Moneys deposited in the fund
  1  6 shall be administered by the department and dedicated to and
  1  7 used for the purposes of section 236.15, section 915.41, and
  1  8 this subchapter, and for supporting the victim service
  1  9 functions of the department.  In addition, the department may
  1 10 use moneys from the fund for the purposes of section 236.15
  1 11 and for the award of funds to programs that provide services
  1 12 and support to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault as
  1 13 provided in chapter 236.  The department may also use up to
  1 14 one hundred thousand dollars from the fund to provide training
  1 15 for victim service providers.  Notwithstanding section 8.33,
  1 16 any balance in the fund on June 30 of any fiscal year shall
  1 17 not revert to the general fund of the state.  
  1 18                           EXPLANATION
  1 19    This bill amends Code section 915.94 relating to the victim
  1 20 compensation fund.  The bill expands the authority of the
  1 21 department of justice to allow use of moneys from the fund for
  1 22 supporting the victim service operations of the department
  1 23 generally.  The bill further allows the department of justice
  1 24 to use up to $100,000 from the fund for victim service
  1 25 provider training.
