1 2 BY SIEGRIST, RANTS, and MYERS
1 3 A Resolution honoring Thane R. Johnson upon his retire-
1 4 ment from the Legislative Service Bureau as a Senior
1 5 Research Analyst.
1 6 WHEREAS, Thane R. Johnson is retiring from the
1 7 Legislative Service Bureau as a Senior Research
1 8 Analyst after serving for nearly 33 years as a
1 9 Research Analyst with almost 28 of those years serving
1 10 as a Senior Research Analyst; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Thane began his career working for the
1 12 Iowa General Assembly in 1969 when the General
1 13 Assembly first began meeting each year in regular
1 14 session, and when the Legislative Service Bureau was a
1 15 young central staff agency; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Thane's bachelor and master's degrees in
1 17 political science and his experience working for the
1 18 South Dakota State Legislative Research Council and
1 19 the Polk-Des Moines Taxpayers Association served him
1 20 well in preparing him for his drafting, staffing, and
1 21 research work for the Legislative Service Bureau; and
1 22 WHEREAS, Thane exhibited his commitment to the
1 23 General Assembly and the citizens of this state by
1 24 becoming an expert in the drafting of bills and
1 25 staffing of committees in the areas of alcoholic
1 26 beverages, gambling, hunting and fishing, and local
1 27 government; and
1 28 WHEREAS, Thane has been a much-beloved staff person
1 29 in the Legislative Service Bureau, sharing his cheery
1 30 personality, enlightening his fellow employees and the
2 1 Bureau's pages with his highly developed sense of
2 2 humor, and exercising his musical talents; and
2 3 WHEREAS, Thane has been active in representing the
2 4 Iowa General Assembly in many Midwestern meetings of
2 5 the Council of State Governments; and
2 6 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the House of
2 7 Representatives should recognize Thane's long-term
2 8 public service, his hard work, his dedication to the
2 9 nonpartisan drafting and staffing missions of the
2 10 Legislative Service Bureau, and his attention to the
2 11 lawmaking functions of the General Assembly; NOW
2 12 THEREFORE,
2 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 14 That the House of Representatives pay tribute to Thane
2 15 R. Johnson, Senior Research Analyst of the Legislative
2 16 Service Bureau, for his extraordinary accomplishments
2 17 as a bill drafter and committee staffer, and for his
2 18 devoted service to the General Assembly and the
2 19 citizens of this state, and, upon his retirement, wish
2 20 him the very best in the years ahead; and
2 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
2 22 House of Representatives prepare an official copy of
2 23 this Resolution for presentation to Thane R. Johnson.
