1 2 BY GRUNDBERG and FOEGE
1 3 A Resolution honoring and commemorating the one
1 4 hundred fiftieth anniversary of Wartburg College.
1 5 WHEREAS, Wartburg College was originally founded in
1 6 1852 in Saginaw, Michigan, to establish a teacher-
1 7 training school for German immigrants in the United
1 8 States; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the college settled permanently in
1 10 Waverly, Iowa, in 1935; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Wartburg College is a nationally
1 12 recognized four-year liberal arts college of the
1 13 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and
1 14 WHEREAS, students currently come to Wartburg
1 15 College from 26 states and 32 countries; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Wartburg College is recognized by U.S.
1 17 News & World Report as one of only 42 comprehensive
1 18 colleges that are among "great schools at great
1 19 prices"; and
1 20 WHEREAS, Wartburg College is ranked as one of the
1 21 top 100 comprehensive colleges in the midwest in the
1 22 2002 edition of America's Best Colleges, published by
1 23 U.S. News & World Report; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Wartburg College is the only comprehensive
1 25 college in Iowa recognized for having graduation rates
1 26 above 70 percent in the 2002 edition of America's Best
1 27 Colleges, published by U.S. News & World Report; and
1 28 WHEREAS, the State of Iowa takes great pride in the
1 29 expertise, resources, and opportunities provided by
1 30 Wartburg College; NOW THEREFORE,
2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 2 That the House of Representatives recognize Wartburg
2 3 College for its contributions to the state in general
2 4 and its students in particular, and extend
2 5 congratulations to Wartburg College on 150 years of
2 6 dedicated service; and
2 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 8 this Resolution be prepared and presented to the
2 9 President of Wartburg College and representatives of
2 10 the student body.
