TAYLOR, TEIG, TREMMEL, 1 17 TYMESON, TYRRELL, VAN ENGELENHOVEN, VAN FOSSEN, 1 18 WARNSTADT, WEIDMAN, WILDERDYKE, WINCKLER, WISE, 1 19 and WITT 1 20 A House Resolution decrying the outrageous terrorist 1 21 attacks launched against the United States on 1 22 Tuesday, September 11, 2001, expressing sympathy 1 23 to the families and friends of those killed or 1 24 injured, and urging the President of the United 1 25 States and other federal officials to deal 1 26 swiftly with those who threaten our freedom. 1 27 WHEREAS, the United States of America stands as the 1 28 nation most respected throughout the world for its 1 29 freedom and its defense of freedom; and 1 30 WHEREAS, tens of thousands of men and women have 2 1 fought and died to secure, maintain, and guarantee 2 2 this freedom, and have utilized this freedom to build 2 3 the most powerful and most successful nation on earth; 2 4 and 2 5 WHEREAS, on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, enemies of 2 6 the United States encroached upon the sacred soils of 2 7 our nation and conducted a series of the most 2 8 inhumane, murderous attacks in the history of the 2 9 world, hijacking and destroying four civilian 2 10 aircraft, crashing two of them into the World Trade 2 11 Center Towers in New York City, a third into the 2 12 Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and a fourth 2 13 failing to reach its target and crashing in 2 14 Pennsylvania, which monstrous attacks killed and 2 15 injured thousands of innocent people and completely 2 16 demolished the World Trade Center Towers and a portion 2 17 of the Pentagon, symbols of American strength and 2 18 success; and 2 19 WHEREAS, the freedom fought for, secured, and 2 20 maintained over the past 225 years is threatened by 2 21 the attackers, by targeting symbols of America, 2 22 clearly intended to intimidate our nation and weaken 2 23 its resolve; NOW THEREFORE, 2 24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 25 That the House of Representatives expresses its 2 26 deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the families and 2 27 friends of those killed and injured in the terrorist 2 28 attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, and the 2 29 recovery efforts following the attacks; and 2 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of 3 1 Representatives offers collective condolences and 3 2 unreserved expressions of support to the State of New 3 3 York, New York City, the State of Virginia, and the 3 4 State of Pennsylvania; and 3 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of 3 6 Representatives condemns in the strongest possible 3 7 terms the terrorists who contrived and carried out 3 8 those attacks, as well as their sponsors or any person 3 9 or nation which harbors terrorists; and 3 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of 3 11 Representatives commends the heroic actions of the 3 12 myriad of rescue workers, volunteers, and officials 3 13 who responded to these tragic events with courage, 3 14 determination, and skill; and 3 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of 3 16 Representatives publicly proclaims that the citizens 3 17 of Iowa will not forget those who have fought and died 3 18 to help secure and maintain our freedom, and further 3 19 publicly decries and condemns those who plot, plan, 3 20 and execute attacks on our freedom, our citizenry, and 3 21 our way of life; and 3 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the thoughts and 3 23 prayers of the members of the House of Representatives 3 24 go out to all those directly affected by the attacks 3 25 and to those participating in the recovery from the 3 26 attacks; and 3 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of 3 28 Representatives urges the President of the United 3 29 States and Congress to deal swiftly and judiciously 3 30 with the situation, that freedom might live; and 4 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That official copies of 4 2 this resolution be delivered to President George W. 4 3 Bush, Governor Thomas Vilsack, members of the Iowa 4 4 congressional delegation, the Secretary of the United 4 5 States Senate, the Clerk of the United States House of 4 6 Representatives, the governors of the states of New 4 7 York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and the mayor of New 4 8 York City. 4 9 LSB 5186HH 79 4 10 tm/sh/8.1
