  1 14 A Resolution honoring the University of Iowa Women's
  1 15    Basketball Team and Coach Lisa Bluder.
  1 16    WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are greatly pleased
  1 17 that the University of Iowa Hawkeyes Women's
  1 18 Basketball Team finished its season with an overall
  1 19 record of 21 wins and 10 losses, and captured its
  1 20 second Big Ten Tournament Championship title with a
  1 21 75-70 upset victory over No. 8 Purdue; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team finished
  1 23 the season ranked number 16 in the Associated Press
  1 24 Poll; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team received
  1 26 the number four seed in the Midwest Region of the
  1 27 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
  1 28 Tournament, its thirteenth appearance in the NCAA, the
  1 29 greatest number of appearances of any university in
  1 30 the Big Ten; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, the Iowa women were successful in the NCAA
  2  2 first round, defeating the University of Oregon; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, the fans actively supported the Iowa
  2  4 Women's Basketball Team, with Iowa finishing the
  2  5 season ranked number 14 in the nation in attendance;
  2  6 and
  2  7    WHEREAS, the Hawkeyes played competitively, set new
  2  8 and tied old school records, and individual players
  2  9 received several athletic awards, including Lindsey
  2 10 Meder, who was named the Big Ten Player of the Year by
  2 11 the Women's Basketball News Service, and was named to
  2 12 the First-Team All-Big Ten Tournament Team, finishing
  2 13 the season ranked first in the Big Ten in free throw
  2 14 percentage; Cara Consuegra, who was voted the 2001 Big
  2 15 Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player, named to the
  2 16 Associated Press All-America Team as an Honorable
  2 17 Mention, voted a First-Team All-Big Ten selection by
  2 18 the coaches, named to the Women's Basketball Coaches
  2 19 Association All-Star Challenge Team, and became Iowa's
  2 20 all-time assists leader; and Randi Peterson, who was
  2 21 selected by the media for a slot on the First-Team
  2 22 All-Big Ten Tournament Team, voted to the All-Big Ten
  2 23 Tournament Team, and finished the season ranked first
  2 24 in the Big Ten in rebounding; and
  2 25    WHEREAS, the Hawkeyes also earned respect for
  2 26 academic excellence with a team cumulative grade point
  2 27 average of 3.2, and individuals were recognized for
  2 28 academic excellence by receiving academic awards, with
  2 29 Lindsey Meder being the first-ever Iowa women's
  2 30 basketball student-athlete named to the 2001 Verizon
  3  1 First-Team Academic All-American Women's Basketball
  3  2 Team, and the 2001 First-Team Verizon All-District
  3  3 Team; and Cara Consuegra was voted to the 2001 Verizon
  3  4 Academic All-District Team, named to the Academic All-
  3  5 Big Ten Team, and awarded a scholarship from the
  3  6 Women's Basketball Coaches Association; and
  3  7    WHEREAS, Head Coach Lisa Bluder was named the
  3  8 Women's Basketball Coaches Association District 6
  3  9 Coach of the Year, the College Coach of the Year by
  3 10 the Women's Basketball News Service, and was voted the
  3 11 Big Ten Coach of the Year, and, along with the
  3 12 coaching staff, encouraged, directed, and inspired the
  3 13 team to great success; NOW THEREFORE,
  3 14    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  3 15 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  3 16 University of Iowa Women's Basketball Team, Coach Lisa
  3 17 Bluder, and the coaching staff, on their successful
  3 18 season and thanks them for the honor and excitement
  3 19 they brought to the State of Iowa.
  3 20    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
  3 21 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
  3 22 prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to
  3 23 Coach Lisa Bluder and the University of Iowa Women's
  3 24 Basketball Team.
