1 3 A Resolution honoring Jacklyn Murray for achieving the
1 4 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
1 5 WHEREAS, Jacklyn Murray, an esteemed resident of
1 6 Onawa, and a student at West Monona Community High
1 7 School, has achieved national recognition for
1 8 exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2001
1 9 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
1 10 WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by The
1 11 Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership
1 12 with the National Association of Secondary School
1 13 Principals, honors young volunteers across America who
1 14 have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
1 15 serving their communities; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Ms. Murray earned this award by giving
1 17 generously of her time and energy by designing and
1 18 cochairing a project to improve two city parks,
1 19 raising $83,000 to fund the project by recruiting
1 20 local teens to help with fund-raising, coordinating
1 21 the fund-raisers and donations from area businesses,
1 22 and soliciting and receiving numerous grants from
1 23 national organizations; and
1 24 WHEREAS, as a recipient of these awards, Ms. Murray
1 25 will receive a monetary award, an engraved medallion,
1 26 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., in
1 27 May 2001, where she will join other states' nominees
1 28 for national recognition events, and the opportunity
1 29 to be named among America's top ten youth volunteers
1 30 of the year; and
2 1 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Iowa, the
2 2 strength of our communities, and the overall vitality
2 3 of American society depend, in great measure, upon the
2 4 dedication of young people like Ms. Murray, who use
2 5 their considerable talents and resources to serve
2 6 others; NOW THEREFORE,
2 7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 8 That the House of Representatives hereby congratulates
2 9 and honors Ms. Murray, as recipient of a Prudential
2 10 Spirit of Community Award, recognizes her outstanding
2 11 record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and
2 12 community spirit, and extends best wishes for her
2 13 continued success and happiness.
2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, after adoption, the
2 15 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall send
2 16 a copy of this Resolution to Ms. Murray.
