1 2 BY SIEGRIST, RANTS, and MYERS
1 3 A House Resolution honoring Chief Clerk of the House of
1 4 Representatives Elizabeth A. Isaacson upon her
1 5 retirement.
1 6 WHEREAS, Chief Clerk of the House of
1 7 Representatives Elizabeth A. Isaacson will retire in
1 8 January of this year after serving the House of
1 9 Representatives for more than 33 years; and
1 10 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson began her career with the
1 11 House of Representatives in 1967 as a secretary to a
1 12 member, becoming secretary to the majority leader in
1 13 1969; and
1 14 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson was named Assistant Journal
1 15 Clerk in 1970, Chief Journal Editor in 1973, Journal
1 16 Editor in 1975, Acting Chief Clerk in 1981, Chief
1 17 Clerk in 1982, Assistant Chief Clerk in 1983, and once
1 18 again Chief Clerk in 1993; and
1 19 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson has earned the utmost respect
1 20 of all who have worked with her over the years, from
1 21 members of the House of both political parties, staff
1 22 members of the House and Senate and the central
1 23 legislative staffing agencies, members of the lobby,
1 24 and members of the press; and
1 25 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson has served honorably as Chief
1 26 Clerk and has unselfishly given of her time and
1 27 efforts to further the interests of the Iowa General
1 28 Assembly and the State of Iowa; and
1 29 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson has been a long-term member
1 30 of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and
2 1 Secretaries, serving as a Vice Chair of its Committee
2 2 on Support Staff in 1993 and of its Committee on
2 3 International Communication and Development in 1998,
2 4 and as a member of the Committee on Interparliamentary
2 5 Relations in 1994, and of the Committees on
2 6 Canadian/American Relations, Program Development, and
2 7 Site Selection in 1995; and
2 8 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson was honored by the American
2 9 Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries as a
2 10 recipient of the 1999 National Conference of State
2 11 Legislature's Staff Achievement Award for her
2 12 demonstrated excellence in supporting the work of the
2 13 Iowa House of Representatives and in strengthening the
2 14 legislative institution in Iowa; and
2 15 WHEREAS, Ms. Isaacson is recognized by all for her
2 16 knowledge of the legislative process, for her
2 17 institutional memory of the processes and actions of
2 18 the Iowa General Assembly, for the efficient
2 19 performance of her responsibilities as chief
2 20 administrative officer of the House of
2 21 Representatives, and for her exceptional
2 22 administrative skills in assembling and retaining
2 23 quality staff and in overseeing the maintenance of the
2 24 legislative chambers and related legislative
2 25 facilities; NOW THEREFORE,
2 26 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 27 That the House of Representatives pay tribute to Ms.
2 28 Elizabeth A. Isaacson for her devoted service to the
2 29 House of Representatives, to the Iowa General
2 30 Assembly, and to the citizens of this state; and
3 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
3 2 Representatives bid Ms. Isaacson a fond farewell,
3 3 thanking her for her many years of devoted service,
3 4 and wishing her the very best in the years ahead; and
3 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
3 6 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Ms.
3 7 Elizabeth A. Isaacson.
