1 1 Section 1. Section 321.182, subsection 1, Code Supplement
1 2 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 1. Make application on a form provided by the department
1 4 which shall include the applicant's full name, signature,
1 5 current mailing address, current residential address, date of
1 6 birth, social security number, and physical description
1 7 including sex, height, and eye color. The application shall
1 8 also include designation of the applicant's race as one of the
1 9 following: white; Spanish, Hispanic or Latino specifying
1 10 Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban or other; black, African
1 11 American, or Negro; Asian or Pacific Islander specifying
1 12 Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Samoan,
1 13 Guamanian, Chamorro, or other Asian; American Indian or Alaska
1 14 native; native Hawaiian; or some other race as indicated by
1 15 the applicant. The application may contain other information
1 16 the department may require by rule. A licensee shall notify
1 17 the department when the licensee's mailing address changes and
1 18 provide the new address within thirty days of obtaining the
1 19 new address. The application provided by the department shall
1 20 include a statement for the applicant to sign that
1 21 acknowledges the applicant's knowledge of the requirement to
1 22 notify the department of a mailing address change. The
1 23 penalty under section 321.482 shall not apply to a licensee's
1 24 failure to notify the department of such an address change.
1 25 EXPLANATION
1 26 This bill requires the state department of transportation
1 27 to expand designation of the applicant's race on the
1 28 application to include categories of white; Spanish, Hispanic,
1 29 or Latino specifying Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, or other;
1 30 black, African American, or Negro; Asian or Pacific Islander
1 31 specifying Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese,
1 32 Guamanian, Chamorro, or other Asian; American Indian or Alaska
1 33 native; native Hawaiian; or some other race as indicated by
1 34 the applicant.
