1 4 RELATING TO THE DESIGNATION OF SPECIFIC CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AS
1 5 QUALIFIED HOSPITALS UNDER THE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE DISPROPOR-
1 6 TIONATE SHARE HOSPITAL PAYMENT PROGRAM.

1 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 10 Section 1. DISPROPORTIONATE SHARE PAYMENTS – CHILDREN'S
1 11 HOSPITALS. The department of human services shall designate a
1 12 children's hospital that meets the criteria for a voting
1 13 member of the national association of children's hospitals and
1 14 related institutions and that operates as part of a licensed
1 15 hospital, as a qualifying hospital for the purpose of receipt
1 16 of disproportionate share hospital payments for inpatient
1 17 services under the medical assistance program. Such a
1 18 children's hospital shall be eligible for receipt of
1 19 disproportionate share hospital funds, whether or not the
1 20 children's hospital has a separate federal Medicare provider
1 21 number. The department of human services shall adopt rules
1 22 and shall seek an amendment from the centers for Medicare and
1 23 Medicaid of the United States department of health and human
1 24 services, as necessary to implement this Act.
