1 1 Section 1. Section 135.24, subsection 2, paragraph c, Code
1 2 Supplement 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 c. Identification of the medical services to be provided
1 4 under the program. The medical services provided may include,
1 5 but shall not be limited to, obstetrical and gynecological
1 6 medical services, services provided by a physician licensed
1 7 under chapter 148, 150 or 150A who is licensed to practice a
1 8 medical specialty, and psychiatric services provided by a
1 9 physician licensed under chapter 148, 150, or 150A.
1 10 EXPLANATION
1 11 This bill provides that the medical services that may be
1 12 provided by a health care provider participating in the
1 13 volunteer health care provider program are to include services
1 14 provided by a licensed physician who is licensed to practice a
1 15 medical specialty. A health care provider participating in
1 16 the program who complies with the requirements of the program
1 17 is considered an employee of the state and is afforded
1 18 protection as an employee of the state in that the state is to
1 19 defend and hold harmless any employee against any claim unless
1 20 the employee fails to cooperate or if the act or omission was
1 21 willful and wanton.
